BAT WALK - Tuesday 8th September 7.00pm

Neil Bedford, a bat enthusiast from Essex Wildlife Trust, will be our guide. He will bring several bat detector devices - but if you have your own, please bring it.

There will be a short walk of about 1.5km on reasonable footpaths, so strong walking shoes (not sandals) and long trousers are advised. And of course check the forecast and dress accordingly.

We should hear, and see, several bat species. All bats are protected by law through the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, and this includes not just the animals but also their roosts. It is useful to remember this when there is so much tree felling and tree surgery going on at the moment. Standing dead wood is an important habitat.

Directions:-Coming out of Lawford on the A137 towards Colchester, just after the end of Garden City and the 40mph sign, there is a turning on your right, down a gravel track. There will be a PACE A-board sign on the roadside. Drive slowly down the track and follow signs to Broom Knolls and the Car Park.
