Supporting the Manningtree Street Keepers
The Street Keepers have been getting on their hands and knees every Monday morning for several years now, making sure that Manningtree looks cared for without the need for anyone to spray with glyphosate, a herbicide used in many other locations which research has shown to be harmful to bees, other forms of wildlife and pets, not to mention the risk to humans. Because the Street Keepers have kept to their task, Manningtree Town Council, Tendring District Council and Essex County Council have all agreed not to spray this herbicide on the streets and pavements in the town. Three cheers for the Manningtree Street Keepers who have won a Pride of Tendring Award for their diligent work.
The Street Keepers do not remove all the pavement plants – they are selective and will leave wild flowers in spots where they don’t bother any passers-by.
In 2026 the Street Keepers have resolved to continue their great work so that glyphosate is not needed on the streets of Manningtree.
What can you do?
If you would like to join the Street Keepers for a session on Monday mornings starting around 9.30am and finishing around 11 (often with a chat over coffee) then you can join them in Manningtree Market Place.
Or Email manningtreepace@gmail.com if you have any questions.
