Water Quality of the River Stour
The news of untreated sewage released into UK rivers, including our River Stour, raised great concerns for wildlife and for people swimming, sailing etc. Nine members of PACE are trained to take samples each month of water and invertebrates which measure water quality. Our results go to the Environment Agency who investigate any concerns. A further 6 volunteers were trained in 2023. You can join the sampling team if you want to learn.
** Update April 2024 ** We continue to take invertebrate samples monthly and in addition, we take water samples for the University of Essex who record the levels of bacteria such as E. Coli and Enterococcus as indicators of sewage pollution.
